Atlanta Luxury Hotels & Destination

Beautiful Atlanta Skyline

Atlanta GA Destination

If you’re traveling to Atlanta thinking you’ll find Old South stereotypes, think again. Atlanta is the New South, never stopping to look back after being burned to the ground in 1864. Atlanta is a luxury hotel destination that has more to see and do than can possibly be accomplished in one visit. With three fascinating distinct skylines, each of which have the potential to rival the city center of any southern city, Atlanta still possesses the charm and elegance of the Old South. As longtime mayor William B. Hartsfield (for whom the world’s busiest airport is named) called Atlanta the city “too busy to hate”, the luxury hotel visitor will find a bustling cosmopolitan city where there is much to be discovered.

Indulge in the personalized discerning service at the luxury hotel spa or enjoy an intense workout at the well-equipped on-site fitness facility. The luxury hotels of Atlanta are all about making you feel like a treasured friend rather than just another typical tourist.

Atlanta History

Atlanta’s World Of Coca Cola

The city of Atlanta was once a Native American village called Standing Peachtree. The land was stolen from the Cherokee and Creeks (also known as Muscogee) by white settlers in the year 1822, however didn’t quite take shape until 1837 when the Western and Atlantic Railroad chose Atlanta as the Southern limit of its track. At that time, the town was named Terminus. In 1843, it was renamed Marthasville and again in 1847 when it became Atlanta (the feminine of Atlantic) and was incorporated. During the Civil War, this treasured town served as a transportation hub, manufacturing center and supply depot. Union General William T. Sherman crippled the South when his army destroyed the railroad facilities, countless business and homes in 1865. With the city in ruins, resurgence began when the Georgia capital was moved from Milledgeville to Atlanta, attracting new business development. From this point on, Atlanta never looked back. Colleges and universities opened and technology was openly embraced as Atlanta prepared for the 20th century. The downtown business sector was well established by the late 1920s when Atlanta Alderman William B. Hartsfield fought hard to convince the city council to convert a vacant racetrack into an airport. Today more than 80 million passengers pass through Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport annually. During the 1950s and 1960’s when racial strife blighted the South, it was Atlanta’s native son, Dr. Martin Luther King who was at the forefront of strengthening minority rights. In the past 25 years Atlanta has continued to elevate its status to world–class. All eyes were on Atlanta when it hosted the Summer Olympics in 1996 inspiring development in the downtown and Midtown areas. The city has been commended for its eco-friendly policies. Atlanta’s Virginia Highland neighborhood became the first carbon-neutral zone in the United States. Always on the cutting edge, Atlanta invites the luxury hotel guest to take a closer look at this warm and embracing city.
