Here at the King's Courtyard Inn you inhabit a slice of Charleston's history. The 3-story Greek Revival building was erected in 1853 and features unusual Egyptian detail. The adjoining building dates to the 1830s and still has the original heart pine floors and plaster ceilings.
The Inn has served a variety of functions over the years, and now offers a selection of rooms around two inner courtyards and a rear garden. Extreme care has been taken to ensure the necessary architectural and historic accuracy, for which Charleston is famous, maintaining the residential atmosphere of lower King Street. Rooms are furnished in 18th-century reproduction furniture, with large windows, high ceilings, and oriental rugs over hardwood floors. In one suite the original 1830s living room maintains the ornate plaster ceiling moldings and the original fireplace.
The Inn is within easy walking distance of Charleston's historic homes, gardens, churches, and the City Market area. Explore one interesting shop after another, barter for the unusual in the open market, or enjoy a delicious meal at one of the many delightful restaurants. King Street is a center for the antique trade, and the Inn is literally surrounded by shops filled with fine collectibles.
