Set amidst a sweeping lawn overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, Congress Hall offers a vibrant atmosphere and modern-day comforts within the grand serenity of this lovingly renovated nineteenth-century hostelry.
Congress Hall’s public areas have been designed with this same sense of simple, relaxed luxury. The entrance lobby retains the hotel’s original black and white marble floor, 12-foot tall doors and black wicker furniture. This is set against the restored yellow plaster walls and crisp white woodwork. While the fixtures are historic, the lobby’s mirrors, palms, fans, and ocean breezes ensure that it is also airy and comfortable. It’s a wonderful place to sit and watch the hustle and bustle of the hotel, to have a drink or to wait for a friend.
In the guest rooms, which range from doubles to luxurious suites, you’ll find state of the art amenities in an environment of timeless calm. Congress Hall’s L-shaped design, a tradition among Cape May hotels, affords many guest rooms uninterrupted views of the broad sweep of the Atlantic beach. Designed by Colleen Bohuny, the rooms blend both antiques original to the building with custom furnishings created specifically for Congress Hall. Fragments of the original 1920s rag rug have been used to inspire a fun reinterpretation of that carpet for the guestrooms, providing a playful, fresh pallet of color on the floor.
Hotel guests and the general public are welcome daily for breakfast, lunch or dinner in the two distinctive dining rooms of the Blue Pig Tavern. Its name derives from a gambling parlor sited in Congress Hall in the mid-1800s. Each of the two dining rooms in the Blue Pig provides a different mood. One has an open, airy garden feel, with a large skylight providing dramatic views of the colonnade and Congress Hall’s historic façades. The second room is reminiscent of a cozy tavern, with dark green paneled walls, a large fireplace, natural wood floors, and comfortable banquettes. Both dining rooms serve the Congress Hall restaurant’s signature American fare – nostalgic, simple and fresh – utilizing local seafood and produce in creative, accessible ways.
Surround yourself with the classic relaxed elegance that made Congress Hall famous.
