The San Sophia is a 16-room boutique hotel, pleasantly situated adjacent to the heart of Telluride's Historical District one block from the San Miguel River and one-half block from the Oak Street Ski Lift. Its ideal location in a box canyon provides spectacular views of 13,000-foot mountains on all three sides.
The attractive lobby is pale peach with turquoise trim and dark teal carpeting. The library tables are cherrywood, sofas and chairs are upholstered in pastel solids and prints. Natural light permeates the dining room area and library.
Guest rooms are named after former gold and silver mines in the immediate area. The names Liberty Bell, Crown Jewel, Campbird, La Junta, Goldking and Tomboy are familiar to long-time locals. All rooms are finished in pastel colors with brass beds, dazzling Southwestern handmade quilts and deep, steeping "Tubs for Two"--some under sky-lights. Each room accommodates an armoire which hides the cable TV and, in some case, VCRs.
Each morning a full gourmet Mountain Breakfast is served from 8 until 10. The 2-week rotating menu includes such fare as French Toast with Sausage, Italian Frittata, Eggs Taos, Chocolate Chip Banana Waffles, Sour Cream Quiche, Oatmeal Pancakes with Hot Slices of Ham; all guaranteed to prepare you for your day of skiing, mountain-biking or hiking, just out the back door.
Spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and the historical village of Telluride can be enjoyed from the guestrooms, the spacious decks, the gazebo-covered Jacuzzi in the garden, and the circular observatory.
The San Sophia is a completely non-smoking hotel, and is not appropriate for children under 10 years of age. |
