It was called the Queen of the Spas, and no wonder. The legendary Adelphi Hotel was built in the high Victorian style that prevailed just before the turn of the century, with 12-foot ceilings and window treatments to match. Today it remains replete with classic Victorian furnishings, and reflects all of the opulence of that era. The hotel has added a beautifully landscaped outdoor swimming pool as part of its major renovation. The lodgings have also been updated to provide guests with full baths, air conditioning, and other modern conveniences. Still, the original facade of ornamental brickwork and three-story Victorian columns with elaborate fretwork at the top remain, retaining the aura of the era.
Guestrooms are unusually large, and each is uniquely decorated with a variety of wall coverings and color schemes. Suites are furnished in a variety of styles including English Country, French Provencal, Adirondack, and High Victorian.
The hotel's Cafe Adelphi consists of several rooms, one featuring a wrap-around mural, and another, an enclosed patio overlooking the flower-laden courtyard. The Cafe offers specially blended drinks, unique wines, desserts, espresso, and cappucinos. It is a popular gathering place after the track, a ballet, or orchestral performance at the performing arts center.
Saratoga Springs is a charming town in which to stroll, and guests of the hotel find interesting antique shops and restaurants. Also of interest are the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, the Saratoga Raceway, and several large and small museums. |
