Nestled in the rolling Catoctin Mountains in central Maryland, The Antrim 1844 is a restored country inn resort, which is acclaimed both regionally and nationally.
The mansion, outbuildings, and grounds of Antrim 1844 create an ambiance of Antebellum grace with European style. Each of the nine guestrooms within the mansion boasts antiques, fireplaces, canopy feather beds and marble baths, or double Jacuzzis with splendid panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Additional suites located in the unique outbuildings have their own fireplace and are furnished with a king- or queen-size bed. Among them "The Ice House" with its atmosphere of an English cottage and "The Barn," offering two guestrooms each with a private deck overlooking the woods and a brook.
Surrounded by 24 acres of countryside, Antrim 1884 is a true respite from the cares of urban life. Guests may choose to leisurely stroll the magnificent grounds, or for those interested in more active recreation, there is croquet, tennis, a golf green, horseshoes, and a swimming pool with a gazebo. Antique shops are a short walk from the Inn. Gettysburg battlefields are only 12 miles away.
Antrim 1844 is renowned for its superb cuisine. Start your day with freshly baked muffins, coffee, and the newspaper. A formal breakfast is served around nine-thirty and often features the house specialty, Belgian waffles. A 5-course dinner is served in the Smokehouse Restaurant, beautifully decorated with plaid and tapestried wingback chairs, complementing rough stone and brick floors and walls. Tempt your palate with Cornmeal Fried Oysters with spicy black beans, Chipotle cream and corn salsa, Salad of Mesclun Greens with shaved prosciutto and honeydew, Filet of Angus Beef Tenderloin with portabello mushroom-bourbon sauce. Save room for a Chocolate Soufflé with vanilla sauce or Lemon White Chocolate Creme Brulee.
