Built in 1886, the extraordinary stone castle Norumbega has been a distinguished Camden landmark for over one hundred years. Situated high above Sherman's Cove, overlooking Penobscot Bay and its many islands, Norumbega is an architectural splendor refurbished with antiques and period pieces, restoring charm from a bygone era.
Sitting on 3.5 acres of groomed grounds, with stone pillars and walls, elegant turrets, and carved mantles and staircases, Norumbega is reminiscent of an English Manor House. Guests enter into a large foyer with an elegant chandelier, coffered ceiling, and oak paneled inglenook with a fireplace and window seat. The guestrooms vary in style and amenities, yet all are lovely and refined. Decorated in blue and green pastels, the Warwick Room offers an exquisite view of the Bay, and is spacious with its king-size bed, fireplace, and antique desk. Guests will have a difficult time making a selection from the many spectacular rooms offered.
Camden and Maine's mid-coast region provides guests with endless hours of exploration. Climb to the top of Mt. Battie for panoramic views of the Bay, the outer islands, and the harbor, or charter a schooner to experience the true essence of coastal Maine. The downtown district is nearby, delighting guests with its interesting shops, galleries, and restaurants. A day trip to Acadia National Park is also a fun adventure. For an evening of intrigue, Norumbega hosts Murder Mystery Weekends, involving guests as characters who must solve the mystery written exclusively for Norumbega.
Each morning a scrumptious breakfast is served to guests on the veranda overlooking the bay, in the dining room, or guests can elect to be graciously served in their own private room. Norumbega offers an open kitchen 24 hours a day for guests, and warm chocolate chip cookies are always on hand. Early evening, guests are invited to a wine and cheese reception offered in the common room.
Norumbega offers guests the elegance and grandeur of a Victorian castle in a casual and comfortable atmosphere. |
