Of all the beaches along the coast of California, perhaps the best known is Malibu, due to its association with Hollywood luminaries. Once a community consisting exclusively of homes and shops, since 1989 it has been home to the Malibu Beach Inn, the first hotel to be built there in 40 years.
The influence of California mission-style architecture is evident in the inn's light pink, textured stucco exterior, Mexican tile roof, and guestroom decor. Each guestroom has its own private balcony from which to view the ever-changing ocean, fascinating coastal strip and Malibu pier. Baths are decorated with hand-painted tiles and some have Jacuzzi tubs overlooking the beach. Each has a refrigerator stocked with snacks and beverages, a spirits locker, a wet bar, television, VCR, safe, and coffeemaker, and most have a fireplace.
A complimentary breakfast is served to guests each morning in the comfortable lobby. There is also a video library available to guests, and a gift shop featuring a truly outstanding collection of Native American jewelry. The many nearby restaurants are unique, innovative and informal, mirroring the casual but elegant Malibu lifestyle.
Water sports abound, such as swimming, snorkeling, surfing and wind surfing. Other sports available are tennis, golf, horseback riding and deep-sea fishing. The hotel has an on-call masseuse and a top-flight health club is nearby. Other attractions include the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, Malibu Creek State Park, Pepperdine University, boutique shopping, Malibu Lagoon Museum and Bird Park, all of which are only 5 minutes away. The J. Paul Getty Museum is 10 minutes away and Malibu Creek State Park is 15 minutes away. |
