The Old Tavern has been providing gracious hospitality to village visitors since 1801. In the old days, it accommodated the likes of Daniel Webster, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Ulysses S. Grant, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Rudyard Kipling, and Henry David Thoreau. Decorated with antiques throughout and painstakingly restored, the Old Tavern is as cozy and welcoming today as it must have been more than one hundred years ago.
Although the Old Tavern offers every amenity necessary to guests' comfort, the telephones and TV sets are located well out of sight and sound to ensure peace and quiet. The guestrooms are individually appointed in Post-Colonial and Federal themes, some formal and some country inn-style with oriental influence. In addition to its thirty-five rooms in the Main Tavern building, the Windham, and Homestead Cottages, accommodations are offered in several smaller, historically restored houses throughout the village, sleeping from eight to fourteen people each. Most guesthouses have full kitchens. Horses are even welcome at one guesthouse, which boasts a stable with six box stalls.
Elegant rooms accommodate up to 40 people for business meetings and other private gatherings at the Old Tavern. The services of a meeting and wedding coordinator are also available.
Complimentary breakfast is served to guests at The Old Tavern Dining Room, which is also open daily for lunch and dinner. For dinner, select the Homemade Lobster Pie or Rack of Lamb, followed by a sumptuous dessert of Raspberry Torte, all prepared with the master culinary skills of chef Jim Martin and served with unobtrusive grace.
The Old Tavern offers full-service catering for up to 140 people, with arrangements individually tailored by the Old Tavern's meeting staff. They offer a host of distinctive features for the perfect wedding: carriage rides, a honeymoon cottage, 1858 Vermont church and private dining facilities. |
