No other place is like Charleston, and in Charleston, no place is quite like Two Meeting Street Inn- the jewel in the crown of the city’s historic inns. From Two Meeting Street Inn’s gracious southern veranda- one of the most photographed porches in the South- guests enjoy layer upon layer of natural beauty while perusing literature or indulging in afternoon tea with an enticing array of lemon squares, rum cakes and dark chocolate plantation brownies. Immediately surrounded by century-old live oaks amid lush gardens with a finely manicured lawn and cherry red azaleas, the inn overlooks Charleston’s historic harbor , The Battery and White Point Gardens. A few blocks away, world-class dining, modern boutiques, antique shops, art galleries, historic museum houses and cultural festivals await.
Emanating a rare charm, as the city’s oldest inn and one of few that share its caliber, Two Meeting Street welcomes guests with its bright façade, dramatic turrets, profusion of arched columns and nine stained glass windows- it makes a memorable impression. The stately inn’s broad sweeping curves beckon all to enter. Museum-quality antiques, period-inspired furnishings and other family heirlooms create an overwhelming sense of warmth and comfort.
Two Meeting Street exudes the gentility of a bygone era and rightly so as it was built in 1890 with the $75,000 that George Walton Williams, a highly successful merchant, gifted his daughter Martha upon her betrothal to Waring P. Carrington, a respected Charleston jeweler. Through his business Mr. Carrington had befriended Louis Comfort Tiffany. In celebration of the Carrington’s fifth wedding anniversary Mr. Tiffany presented to Martha a pair of stained glass windows featuring magnolia blossoms and blue iris.
Two Meeting Street Inn’s nine distinctive guestrooms provide the perfect setting for a romantic celebration or a tranquil retreat from everyday life. Whether you choose a magnificent honeymoon suite or an inviting third floor room, your experience will be memorable. The Spell Room is a guest favorite. This room features 12 foot ceilings, hardwood floors with Oriental rugs, a mahogany four poster bed with curved canopy, a sitting area surrounding a fireplace, a Southern piazza and a private bathroom. The Inn offers you the amenities of a luxury Charleston hotel along with the special, personal touches one expects from a congenial Southern host.
On the piazza overlooking the courtyard, guests enjoy a plentiful Southern breakfast. In the late afternoon, one is rejuvenated with a gracious afternoon tea. At the end of the day, evening sherry awaits you. Naturally, a professional concierge will have scheduled your Charleston activities. Complimentary wireless internet is available, if you choose.
At Two Meeting Street Inn the pace slows and the mind rests. The Inn invites you to discard your stress and relish the exquisite civility and romance of Charleston. We await your arrival. |
