This colorful Virginia historic landmark conveys the romance and tradition of the Allegheny Mountains. The Inn at Gristmill Square, a whole complex of restored buildings around a small square, is a 19th-century country village with the modern convenience of private baths with bathrobes, hair dryers and toiletries, and cable TV. You'll enjoy the special touches, such as fresh flowers, classic linens and a welcoming fruit and cheese platter.
Guestrooms are located throughout four of the five original turn-of-the-century buildings, previously a mill, blacksmith shop, hardware store and two private residences. The 17 rooms and suites are individually furnished in traditional decor with the feel of a country home. Many rooms have their own fireplace. A complimentary continental breakfast featuring fresh fruit and specialty breads still warm from the oven is served to each room.
Guests may enjoy fresh local trout at The Waterwheel restaurant, located in the restored gristmill. The ambiance here is rustic country, with fine prints and fresh wildflowers in season. Before dinner, patrons choose their own bottle from the wine cellar next to the millstream.
For summer recreation, guests can utilize the outdoor pool, sauna and 3 tennis courts. The mineral-rich Warm Springs thermal pools are a mile away. Fishing, hiking and horseback riding are available at nearby George Washington National Forest. Also nearby are championship golf courses and an annual chamber music festival. |
