This romantic, historic inn voted "San Diego's Best" has been showcased in the Los Angeles Times, Sunset Magazine, Travel and Leisure, New York Times, Glamour Magazine, Cooking Light and Country Inns.
The inn abounds in priceless antiques. Hardwood floors with one of a kind Oriental and European area rugs and original works of art and antique prints add to the luxurious decor and European ambiance. Designed by the Cubist" architect Irving Gill in 1913 and home to the John Philip Sousa family in the 1920's, the inn exudes European charm with wood burning fireplaces in some of the select rooms. Some rooms have an ocean view.
A full gourmet breakfast by candlelight is served daily in the dining room. Bask in the sun on the bougainvillea draped, second floor patio or make your way to the garden, a lovely oasis with hummingbird feeders, loquat trees, dappled sunlight and a lyrical fountain. The garden is especially cozy in the early morning with the rich aromas of coffe and baked goods filling the air.
Take a leisurely stroll along the beach and explore the wonders of the tide pools. You may order a picnic basket for two and enjoy a romantic evening watching the sun set from the La Jolla cliffs. A block from the beach, in the heart of La Jolla's marvelous shops, restaurants and art galleries, the Inn is only minutes from San Diego's many other attractions such as Del Mar Race Track, Mexico, Sea Port Village, Old Town, Sea World, the Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Gas Lamp District, numerous theaters and the enchanting Balboa Park or experience the Museum of Contemporary Art. You may stroll further along into the village for a relaxing dinner at one of the many fine restaurants, then browse among the galleries, antique stores and designer shops.
......or, just relax with a cup of tea and a good book in the light and airy library. There are fresh flowers throughout the inn to embrace the senses; fresh fruit and fine sherry to soothe a weary body; and the beauty of the nearby sea to heal the soul.
So take a break from the ordinary and experience a more relaxing and gracious style of travel. Enjoy being our guest.
