This National Historic Landmark in downtown Portland is next door to the Center for the Performing Arts and just a few steps from the Portland Art Museum, Oregon Historical Society and downtown business and shopping districts. The Heathman was completely renovated in 2005. Original works by leading American artists are displayed throughout the hotel. The lobby, featuring rare eucalyptus paneling, a grand piano, and a fireplace, is the setting for afternoon tea (seasonal), and evening jazz (Wed - Sat).
Each spacious guestroom is decorated with elegant traditional furnishings featuring mahogany and cherry finishes. The subtle tones and simple styles represent an era of grand luxury. Original Northwest art adorns each guestroom including the new Andy Warhol Room. A complimentary 400-plus film library and 2000-plus literary library are available to all guests. Baths are fitted with marble and provided with robes, hair dryers and abundant complimentary toiletries.
The Heathman has become a Portland dining favorite, thanks in part to its proximity to cultural events, and to their award-winning chef, Philippe Boulot. The restaurant prides itself on serving the finest and freshest northwest regional seafood, vegetables, and meat. Menus change seasonally; in the spring, dinner began with northwest game pate with red remoulade, then the Heathman salad of Romaine and butter lettuces, garlic croutons, bacon, and mint tossed together in a delectable dressing. The entree was rack of Oregon lamb, and dessert a chocolate-raspberry torte served along with the Heathman's house-blend coffee.
The elegant Marble Bar is named for its exquisite marble furnishings, and is a popular apres-theatre meeting place. It serves bistro-style small plates until 12:00 a.m.
The care and thought that have gone into refurbishing this hotel, combined with courteous professional service, will surely please.
