The Kehoe House is an exquisitely restored 1892 Renaissance Revival mansion in Savannah’s celebrated Historic District. Once home to the William Kehoe family, the Inn features 13 original guest rooms appointed with European linens and elegant furnishings. The Kehoe House is an historic mansion listed on the National Register of Historic Places and located in downtown Savannah, just across Columbia Square from the original Kehoe House — which the Kehoe family outgrew long before the 10th child was born into the family.
Built by master ironworker and foundry owner William Kehoe in 1892, the Kehoe House is the stuff of local legend: virtually all of the architectural detail work on the outside of the house is made of cast iron. Kehoe is once thought to have said, “If you can build it in stone, if you can build it in brick, if you can build it in wood — then I can build it in iron.”
Looking at the house, it’s amazing to think that all of the painted detail work not made of brick is actually made of cast iron. Even the delicate ceiling medallions inside the home were made in this manner.
Over the years it was a private residence, but it spent the majority of the 20th century as a funeral home. Today, it is a bed and breakfast, one of the only 4-Star bed and breakfasts in the South, and the only one in Savannah. It is also quite possibly America’s only haunted 4-Star establishment.
While the Kehoe House’s turn-of-the-century ambiance has been preserved, guests also enjoy modern conveniences such as inn-wide wireless Internet. The Kehoe House has a reputation as one of the nation's most romantic bed and breakfast inns.
