The Peninsula New York, which opened in 1905 as the Gotham Hotel, has been fully restored to its original beaux-arts elegance and designated for landmark preservation. Entering the lobby is like stepping into the grandeur of the Belle Époque. Rich marble abounds and a multifaceted crystal chandelier highlights the Renaissance details of the original Gotham ceiling.
