The Wauwinet originally opened in the mid-19th century as a restaurant serving shore dinners to patrons arriving by boat. It evolved into a hotel and soon became a Nantucket landmark. Featuring 30 guestrooms, an award-winning restaurant, a 254-foot dock, and a wide range of recreational options, the Wauwinet also offers thoughtful and innovative services and amenities.
The gracious, sunny guestrooms are located over three floors of the inn, and in five private guest cottages. Each is individually decorated with country antiques, fine paintings and other art. Some offer water views and all have private baths.
A complimentary full breakfast is served to guests daily, either in-room or at Topper's restaurant. Cheeses, port and sherry are served in the library each afternoon. Guests also have complimentary use of all recreational equipment and facilities.
Topper's restaurant, with dining in two indoor rooms and alfresco on the umbrella-shaded Bayview Terrace, is the recipient of Wine Spectator's Grand Award. Chef Chris Freeman creates American Regional cuisine focusing on fresh local ingredients that celebrate the distinct natural flavors of the season. A dinner might include an appetizer of Lobster and Scallop "Navarin" with Morel Mushrooms and English Peas followed by an entree of Grilled Stripped Bass on a Jonah Crab Broth with Fennel, Leek and Shoestring Potatoes. The award-winning wine list features more than 800 American and French vintages.
Drinks and light fare for lunch are also served in the bar or on the Bayview Terrace, and customized, gourmet picnic baskets are available.
The Wauwinet Lady, a custom 26-passenger open launch, sails to town twice a day (a 50-minute ride). Guests also enjoy complimentary sailing aboard the Topper, Too, a 21-foot Mako Runabout, to Coatue, a secluded beach. Complimentary bay cruises are scheduled in the summer.
