Classical boutique-style hotel built in 1907 and refurbished by local interior designer Candra Scott, into a literary haven reminiscent of the salons of the 1920's and 1930's. The hotel has an excellent city center location amidst fine shops, boutiques, restaurants, art galleries and theaters. It is just a half block from the cable car line on Powell Street, one block from Union Square, four blocks from Chinatown and the Financial District, and less than six blocks from the Moscone Convention Center.
The vibrant and lively lobby and lounge are decorated with period furnishings, walls of handsome antiquarian books and exceptional collections of exotic objects and original art. As a special touch, throughout the hotel an elegant "R" is monogrammed on the upholstered furnishings.
To create a comfortable home-away-from-home atmosphere, the guestrooms feature walnut furnishings, spacious armoires, down pillows and comforters. Inspired by the art and literary salons of the 1920's and 1930's, the rooms feature artwork by local artisans and handpainted lampshades. The magnificent two-room suites feature a living room with sofa bed and custom furnishings and artwork from local artisans, separate bedroom with luxurious king size bed and one and a quarter baths.
