A few steps outside the Orchard Hotel, guests board America's only moving national landmark - the San Francisco cable car sytem. From here, the cars climb up and down the city's dramatic grades, taking passengers to famed sites like Nob Hill, Fisherman's Wharf, and Ghirardelli Square.
With only 105 rooms, including 9 suites, the hotel's boutique size contributes to the San Francisco feel. Arched door openings, vaulted ceilings, stone flooring, and elaborate wall treatments honor local tradition. Soft grays, burgundies and cream tones throughout lend the sophistication of a cosmopolitan "pied-a-terre."
The Orchard's classic arched facade stretches ten stories high. But inside lies just a dozen rooms to a floor, served by two high-speed lifts. Within these rooms, guests discover furnishings made of Balinese nyatoh, a golden wood that resembles teak or light mahogany. Cotton bathrobes and Aveda grooming products completes the marble bathrooms' luxury, rivaled only by the city's views through classic San Francisco bay windows.
Each night's stay comes with a complimentary European-style breakfast buffet at the Solea Restaurant. Designed as an attraction unto itself and destined to become one of San Francisco's leading dining rooms, Solea is just off the hotel lobby, past a hypnotic sheet-water fountain, and features a smart, cozy bar where hotel guests and curious passers-by gather for repose, chitchat and attentively constructed cocktails.
The restaurant and bar offer a dozen wines by the glass along with an ever-evolving full-bottle list featuring European and California vintages. Internationally acclaimed Chef Bruno Feldeisen and his staff help guests choose the perfect wine to go with dishes from a menu combining classic French techniques with contemporary San Francisco flair.
