Hunstrete House stands in a classical English landscape on the edge of the Mendip Hills just seven miles from historic Bath. The house is largely 18th century, but the history of the estate goes back to 963AD. A cozy log fire is always burning in the main lobby, and the Library and Drawing Room are both elegant and beautifully decorated.
All 22 ensuite guestrooms are unique, with antique furniture, artwork and fine porcelain. There are three suites and a Junior suite called "Robin;" "Swallow" has both a south and east outlook, while "Dove," complete with four poster bed, has a south and west outlook, and "Pipit" has a beautiful view of the Deer Park south outlook. All have beautiful views over the grounds. The eleven guestrooms in the Courtyard wing are spacious and some feature connecting doors for families. All rooms include color television with remote control, radio, direct dial telephone, trouser press and hair dryer, complimentary sherry, malt whiskey, fruit and mineral water.
The outdoor heated swimming pool is in a sheltered area off the gardens and has its own changing rooms. Alongside the swimming pool area is the all-weather tennis court. As an alternative, the lovely grounds and gardens are perfect for an early morning or afternoon stroll.
The small Bar is a more recent addition and like the adjacent Garden Room looks out over the Croquet lawn. The Garden Room is equipped with air-conditioning and is very popular for private dining, executive board level meetings and more recently, marriage ceremonies.
The cuisine at Hunstrete House is in the capable hands of Chef Phil Hobson, who has been recognized by the Good Food Guide and the AA. Indulge in a fabulous Mille Feuille of Gratinated Monkfish in Saffron Sauce followed by Roast Guinea Fowl, Anna Potatoes with Lentils du Pay and a Port Wine Sauce. Then, as a perfect ending, treat yourself to Blackcurrant Creme Brulee with Liquorice Ice Cream and Coconut Tuiles.
The Hunstrete House is “a truly beautiful English Country House Hotel with the charm, warmth and atmosphere of a family home.”
