Surrounded by a sleepy grass moat, the Chateau de Vault de Lugny has origins dating back to the 13th century. It enjoys an idyllic setting on 40-acres and is a fine base to explore the serene “vallée du Cousin” and the celebrated medieval village of Vezelay, with its 11th century Romanesque Basilica. The interior is dramatic, with marvelous paneling, superb antiques, big elaborate fireplaces and ornate ceilings.
Each room is individually decorated with luxurious antique furnishings, romantic four poster beds, tapestry wall coverings, and amenities like refrigerated mini-bars, televisions, telephones and a safe. Fresh cut flowers and fruit baskets add a personal touch. Le Roy was originally reserved for the King of France during his travels. The room features a massive king size, four poster bed, an open log fireplace, and rich wood paneling. The original open beamed ceiling is painted royal blue with golden fleur-de-lis.
Spend your days playing tennis, hot air ballooning, trout fishing, horseback riding, cycling, jogging, exploring medieval Vezelay and wine tasting, or simply delight in the beautiful gardens which surround the chateau.
Three interesting menus, Seasonal, Burgundian and Gourmet, ensure that dining is memorable, whether alfresco or seated amiably around the kitchen table. The chef ensures all dishes and pastries are made to order on the premises and will accommodate any request. Exquisite dishes include fresh Brittany Lobster roasted in its shell with Chervil and Rice, Beef Tournedos in light Foie Gras sauce or Truffled Tagliatelli pasta with Scampi and aged Parmesan cheese. Breakfast is served between 7:30 AM & 12:00 PM and a complimentary copy of the Herald Tribune is provided for English speaking guests. Every Saturday, traditional Burgundy aperitifs are served in the lounge or the garden, compliments of the Château.
