Little Dix is quiet, understated, and exquisitely landscaped. When Laurence S. Rockefeller dreamed of his "wilderness beach" in the 50's this island resort had only one or two jeeps and no electricity (electricity arrived in 1972). From the dream the resort grew in stages while always remaining faithful to Rockefeller's original premise: "to provide a hideaway while retaining the natural beauty."
The white sandy beach is nearly perfect and the water, calm. Most guests first notice the incredible gardens. Verdant, profuse orchards and every other imaginable tropical specimen are framed by billowing palms in a natural landscape with sloping lawns.
The rooms vary in architectural spirit only. The rooms have a light wood finish, with one wall of local stone, and comfortable cane and wicker furniture compliments the Caribbean theme. All are spacious and all face toward the sea. Stilts support a few and each has a generous sized patio to take best advantage of the trade winds.
The most intimate and upscale of Rosewood Little Dix Bay's restaurants, The Sugar Mill has been recently redesigned with stonework and rich wood textures. Tables are arranged to allow panoramic views of the sea and verdant island environs. The Sugar Mill offers an eclectic fusion of contemporary Pan-Asian and European cuisines and a unique Amusaries Menu featuring tastes of our chef’s best creations. The menu includes miso glazed grouper, five-spiced pork belly, Mediterranean sea bass with soba noodles and Himalayan truffles. Guests may also consider the nightly tasting menu paired with fine wines. The Sugar Mill is open for dinner five nights a week and is ideal for a romantic dinner à deux. A private dining room with seating for up to 12 guests is also available for small groups and reunions.
Rosewood Little Dix Bay offers numerous options for private meetings and receptions. In addition, there are informal areas, such as the Pavilion, that are available during the day. The Mahogany Boardroom, tucked into the heart of the resort, accommodates up to 20 persons in a quiet, comfortable setting. All A/V and presentation tools, including high-speed Internet access and on-site professional A/V assistance, are at hand, and meetings are complemented with outstanding catering and tailored activities as requested.
If you're feeling energetic, you can get trail maps and hike up to the observation tower, where you'll have a sweeping view of the Virgin Islands that you'll remember forever. Be sure you partake of "the baths" where huge granite boulders come together in a crazy fashion, toppling over one another, to form grottoes under clear seawater.
You won't need suggestions as to what to do in this tropical Eden. Relax and enjoy it. |
