Beyond the bustling Calangute Temple and set in two acres of pristine beauty, is a peaceful haven called Pousada Tauma. It took three and a half years to complete these tropical gardens, graceful stone columns, archways and sparkling pool complex, and it was well worth the wait.
The twelve air-conditioned suites have themes including the sea, the fields, the mountains and the castle. They each feature a private dining area, dressing tables, a wardrobe, and a patio with a private, detached garden or terrace. Modern amenities include STD/ISD dialing facilities, television with satellite transmission channels and a mini bar.
The focal point of Pousada Tauma is the handcrafted, wooden-deck beds where guests are soothed by the sound of flowing water. The pool complex includes a wading-pool for children, a sunken pool-bar, a poolside pavilion and a water-cascade. But the greatest attraction is the fully equipped Ayurveda Centre designed to tone body, mind and soul. Special therapeutic packages, which include traditional massage and holistic treatments, leave visitors feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.
The restaurant at Pousada accommodates 45, making it ideal for intimate parties. A friendly Goan chef, whose only aim is to ensure that you are served the tastiest food possible, prepares the food. Start with the Shrimp Crostini - crispy shrimp toast with sesame seeds - followed by refreshing carrot and coconut salad. Entrees include a delicious pan seared Pomfret Recheado filled with local spices ground with toddy vinegar, and Bhindi Pepper Fry, fried bhindi tossed with onion, tomato and crushed pepper. For dessert, enjoy Coconut Pancakes or Dodhol, a Goan specialty made with rice cake that is gently cooked in coconut milk and jaggery.
